Massachusetts was ranked the 10th best state for patient safety nationally, according to the newest Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades report, released on Wednesday, May 3, that scores nearly 3,000 American general acute-care hospitals. The new report also revealed that rates of deadly healthcare-related infections have stayed high since peaking during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The dramatic spike in HAIs [healthcare-associated infections] reported in this Safety Grade cycle should stop hospitals in their tracks—infections like these can be life or death for some patients,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
Just under 37% of Massachusetts hospitals received an 'A' score from Leapfrog, which ranks hospitals on more than 30 measures to determine how well a hospital keeps patients safe from preventable harm and medical errors.
